Your Citizen Voice — Ideas in Pollok

What do we want to know?:

Glasgow City Council’s Centre for Civic Innovation has been working with more than 200 citizens, colleagues and local partners to co-design a new way of working in neighbourhoods. We aim to amplify the voice of our citizens through participatory democracy and allow Area Partnerships to make decisions based on the opinions of as many local people as possible.

In order to test this system we will be running a prototype in two Wards of the city over the next 18 weeks - Calton and Greater Pollok. We will be using the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Investment Fund in both Wards and will be asking citizens for their opinion on how £1 million of infrastructure investment is spent in their neighbourhood.

During the 18 week process, there will be a mix of in person, in-place and online, engagement over two periods with specialist teams set up to support the process.

The aim of the prototypes is to test the ideas co-designed over several months and deliver a system that works better for our citizens, creates stronger relationships locally and makes better use of council resources. The prototype will test different methods and timelines to understand what is achievable: this will include a shorter period for online surveys of between three and four weeks which is shorter than the recommended period in current guidelines. This process will be supplemented with additional in-person and in-place activity. Rather than having infrequent, prolonged consultations, this is intended to have shorter, more regular feedback loops with citizens based on our research and engagement.

This survey is included in Part One of the process and will aim to understand the infrastructure themes that are important to citizens in Pollok. Citizens will also be able to submit ideas on how the money should be spent in their neighbourhood.
