What do we want to know?

Glasgow City Council has taken ownership of the Dalmarnock Legacy Hub. We want to work with you to understand how best to use this building.

The Legacy Hub has some good spaces and facilities. It is close to the Emirates Arena, surrounded by outside spaces with potential. It sits within a wider district containing a mix of local facilities and services.  We could re-imagine this place together with the right local services, in the right places, for the benefit of everyone in the community.  The Legacy Hub building offers one opportunity to meet the needs of local people and it doesn’t have to be run by the council.

Glasgow City Council does not have any existing revenue funding to operate the Legacy Hub so we want to ensure that any physical and functional changes to the building are sustainable, and are supported by a viable business plan.  We also need to establish strong governance arrangements. This consultation will help us find the best approach for Dalmarnock.

Our first task is to better understand what’s needed in the community. With this shared understanding, we can jointly consider who is best placed to operate and manage the hub. We can also can work out how best to link with existing and planned initiatives in area to better connect services around community need.

We believe the best way to use this opportunity is for us to work together and we need to make sure that everyone has their say. This survey is the first step. It’ll only take you 10 minutes to complete and your views will make a difference.

The survey is intended for anyone over the age of 12 years old and closes at midnight on 24th April 2020
This survey is anonymous.  If you would like to be included in any future consultation, please provide your email address when you are redirected at the end of the survey.

If you require any additional information about this survey or would like this document in an alternative format or community languages, please contact: SportHQAdminHub@glasgowlife.org.uk

Click for more detail LOW EMISSION ZONE Consultation Neighbourhoods and Sustainability 17 Feb 2020 29 Mar 2020
What do we want to know?

To inform how the council should implement the second phase of Glasgow’s Low Emission Zone, we are seeking your views on key aspects including its boundary, enforcement dates and temporary local exemptions - as well as how it might affect your future transport choices.

Pollution caused by vehicle emissions is largely invisible but very harmful - particularly so for the very young, the elderly and those with existing respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

In Glasgow city centre, recorded nitrogen dioxide levels do not meet statutory limits. The main source of this harmful air pollutant is from road traffic and is why Glasgow introduced Scotland’s first ever Low Emission Zone at the end of 2018.

Only vehicles which meet cleaner emissions standards are permitted to drive into low emission zones. As well as Glasgow, some other Scottish cities are expected to follow suit, with plans for Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee to introduce LEZs by the end of 2020.

We are phasing in Glasgow’s LEZ to give everyone the chance to prepare. Its emission standards affects local service buses only at present, however its second phase, which will be enforced from 31 December 2022, will apply to all vehicles driving into the city centre zone, including private cars. A grace period (additional time to comply with the emission requirements) will be considered for individuals whose vehicle is registered at a residential property within the zone.

To inform how the council should implement the second phase of Glasgow’s LEZ, we are seeking your views on key aspects; including its boundary, enforcement dates and temporary local exemptions - as well as how it might affect your future transport choices.

In addition to the introduction of Glasgow’s LEZ, a wide range of work is underway in our city to encourage higher levels of active travel, drive up standards in public transport and reduce the reliance on private vehicles.

Taking part in the consultation will ensure we hear your opinions and learn more about how Glasgow’s LEZ might affect you.

Cllr Anna Richardson, City Convener for Carbon Reduction and Sustainability: “The introduction of Glasgow’s Low Emission Zone shows our resolute determination to tackle air pollution in the city centre and beyond. Given that our LEZ will affect all vehicles by the end of 2022, I’d urge as many people as possible to take part in the consultation. Whilst the Scottish Government will set out the detail of how Low Emission Zones will operate nationally, various local aspects for Glasgow’s LEZ are yet to be set. Participation will give you the ideal opportunity to have your say and make your voice heard.”

Click for more detail Ecological Emergency – Public Consultation 2020 Neighbourhoods and Sustainability 11 Feb 2020 20 Mar 2020
What do we want to know?

Glasgow City Council declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency in May 2019 in recognition of the unprecedented nature of the challenge which climate change presents to us all. Up to one million species face extinction because of human actions. The loss of pollinating insects and other ecological disasters are no lesser a threat than climate change, according to the report by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.

To assist in planning the way forward a short life working group has been formed to assess aspects of the ecological emergency. The working group focus is on the following themes:

  • Local Biodiversity Action Plan and the Glasgow Open Space Strategy
  • Land Management
  • State of Nature

The group will submit a report to the Environment, Sustainability and Carbon Reduction City Policy Development Committee in April 2020 with its recommendations.

To assist with the development of any recommendations, we want to hear your views about what we should do, how ambitious we should be, and what resources we can draw upon. Please give your responses to the following questions and feel free to add web references to useful literature or stories.
