Glasgow City Council last year carried out a major public consultation asking people who use Shawlands Town Centre for their thoughts on how the area could be improved. The findings of this consultation - which generated 1240 responses – are detailed below. Link: Results of Shawlands Town Centre Survey Following on from this consultation a draft Shawlands Town Centre Action Plan was developed. The Plan is intended to ensure Shawlands becomes a more desirable place, where people can choose to live and invest. The Plan addresses economic, place-making and urban management issues and proposes specific ways in which the Town Centre can be repositioned to become a successful, thriving city destination. It also recommends a number of improvements to place management, public spaces, streets, buildings and the role played by business and customers in helping it to become more successful.
A summary of the public response is now available. To view these reports, please click on the links below. Shawlands Draft Town Centre Action Plan - Report of Consultation Programme
Public Consultation Statement
Pedicabs (sometimes referred to as rickshaws) are a non-motorised type of tricycle designed to carry passengers in addition to the driver.Where pedicabs are offered as a service to members of the public in exchange for money or money’s worth, the person offering that service requires to obtain a Street Trader’s Licence from the Council, as the Licensing Authority for Glasgow, in terms of section 39 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982. The Licensing Authority is aware that there are a number of competing arguments regarding the use of pedicabs. While pedicabs provide another form of transport for Glasgow which is environmentally friendly, there may also be a number of safety concerns including the condition of the pedicabs and the safety of the passengers and driver which would render them unsuitable for use as part of a licensed activity. Before deciding which policy option to adopt, the Licensing Authority believes it is important to take on board the views of the public and other interested parties. The Licensing Authority is therefore carrying out a public consultation which will run from 16 November 2011 to 9 January 2012.The consultation should take approximately 10 minutes to cxomplete and we would very much appreciate feedback on these along with any other comments your may have on the regulation of pedicabs.Alternatively you can complete the attached pro-forma and return it to us using the address provided.Pedicab ConsultationLicensing SectionGlasgow City Council235 George StreetGlasgow G1 1QZPhone: 0141 287 4812Fax: 0141 287 5569Email: LicensingEnquiries@glasgow.gov.uk
New LHS Guidance was issued by the Scottish Government in June 2008, setting out changes in the format of the LHS. The LHS is now to include the local authority's strategies on homelessness, housing support, fuel poverty, energy efficiency and climate change, and private housing conditions. The LHS must also be integrated with the Strategic Development Plan for the Clyde Valley and with the Glasgow's City Plan. Some consultation questions have been identified in the draft document and we would very much appreciate feedback on these questions and other aspects of our strategy.
The aim of this consultation is to provide the opportunity to comment on, add to and refine the draft Glasgow Open Space Strategy and its interim Environmental Report. The consultation process seeks to produce a document with a broad and committed endorsement for final adoption by the Council.
Your comments are sought on the content of the Draft Conservation Area Appraisal. Paper copies will be available to view at Whiteinch Library and the Council Offices at 229 George Street, GlasgowG1 1QU.
